Ohio car crash claims 3, injures 2

Authorities report that a car accident that happened at around 9:15 p.m. on Sept. 6 in Clark County on Old Columbus Road claimed the lives of three people and injured two others. The crash occurred just after 9 p.m. when a Ford Contour was hit head-on by a GMC Jimmy in the road's 9100 block. Police investigators said that the 2001 Jimmy was trying to pass another vehicle in a zone where passing was prohibited when it ran into the oncoming Contour in the eastbound lane of traffic.

A police spokesperson said that the Contour caught fire directly after being hit. All three of its passengers, including a 42-year-old man, a 34-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man, died at the crash site. The 23-year-old male driver of the vehicle that caused the accident and his 23-year-old female passenger were both treated at Miami Valley Hospital. He was listed in critical condition, but her injuries were less severe.

Officials from multiple departments responded to the crash, including the Harmony Township Fire Department, the Pleasant Township Fire and Rescue Department and the county sheriff's office. The investigation was conducted by the Ohio State Police, but reports did not say whether the driver found to have caused the accident will face any charges should he survive.

Vehicle accidents that occur as a result of drivers violating traffic rules can be especially severe in terms of the injuries they cause, particularly in a case like this that results in a head-on collision at presumably high speeds. Victims may die, and their survivors are often burdened with high medical fees and serious emotional trauma. Personal injuryattorneys may be able to help these individuals or the victims' estates seek legal remuneration by building a strong case against a negligent party or his or her estate and compiling evidence from police investigations.
