Ohio Patrol says alcohol involved in fatal crash

A two-car crash on an Ohio highway had tragic consequences, with one person being killed and three others injured. The crash occurred Sept. 30 when one vehicle crossed over the center line and hit another car.

The Ohio State Patrol said a 2007 Ford Focus that was southbound on Route 207 hit a 1997 Buick LeSabre when it went into the center line. The accident happened near milepost 4 in Union Township. The department's Chillicothe Patrol Post said that alcohol was involved in the crash and reminded drivers never to drink and drive.

The Ohio drivers of both cars were taken to Adena Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries they sustained in the car accident. A passenger in the Buick, an 82-year-old Jarlsberg man, was taken to the same hospital. Information on the injuries each sustained was not immediately available. A second passenger in the Buick was airlifted to the Adena hospsital where she died of her injuries. The woman was 84 years old. The Ohio State Patrol is still investigating the accident; there have been no reports of charges being filed yet.

The aftermath of car accidents is traumatic as victims struggle with injuries; emotional and mental trauma; and stress over paying bills if their injuries won't allow them to work. They also may struggle with grief when a loved one dies in the accident. Injured victims may be entitled to compensation for financial damages while families of deceased victims may be eligible for financial compensation through a wrongful death claim. A personal injury attorney may be able to advise them on their legal rights to this financial compensation and then help them obtain it by handling their claim to the at-fault driver's insurance company.
