Ohio car accidents involving motorcycles often have fatal results

On Behalf of | Jun 12, 2014 | Car Accidents

Accidents involving motorcycles seem to be a common occurrence in Ohio and nationwide. Motorcycles are typically harder to see, compared to a regular automobile, which is often the cause of these car accidents. These collisions also tend to have fatal consequences due to the lack of protection riders have, particularly because helmets can only do so much.

A recent accident in Portage Township, involving a pickup and two motorcycles, claimed the life of one man and left five others injured. The accident occurred after the driver of a pickup supposedly attempted a left hand turn and entered the path of the motorcycles. The first motorcycle, carrying two riders — a 53-year-old male and 49-year-old female — collided with the pickup and was then struck from behind by the second motorcycle. The motorcycle operator was killed in the crash. The five other individuals involved in this incident suffered injuries of varying severity, and were all taken to local hospitals for medical treatment.

This incident required the closure of the road for about four hours after the crash in order for police to investigate. Local law enforcement are still processing this accident and have released very little information regarding the crash. At this time, they do not believe alcohol to be a contributing factor. Police have not indicated if any criminal or traffic charges will be filed in this matter.

Car accidents that result in serious injury and/or death can have severe emotional, physical and financial consequences. While several individuals are left trying to recover from the injuries suffered as a result of this crash, family and friends of the deceased are also left trying to cope with the tragic loss of their loved one. In this case, those injured may file personal injury claims against the driver or drivers deemed responsible for this collision, and the family of the deceased may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim on behalf of their loved one. If liability is recognized by a civil court in Ohio, successfully litigated claims could result in monetary compensation being awarded to the victims and/or their family members.
