Ohio Car Accidents: Charges filed against driver in fatal crash

Driving while impaired is known to be a risky choice for not only the driver, but also for any passengers in their vehicle and others sharing the road with them. Car accidents caused at the hands of a drunk driver can certainly take a toll on victims and their family members. Unfortunately, too many Ohio residents have been affected by drivers who choose to drink and drive.

A single-vehicle collision in Ohio City is believed to be responsible for the death of a 33-year-old man. The victim was the passenger in a car that apparently collided with a median and into a guardrail around West 28th Street and Washington Avenue. He was transported to a hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead a short time after arriving.

The driver of the car was supposedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the wreck. He was recently charged with aggravated vehicular homicide for this incident. It is unknown if any other charges are pending in this case.

Fatal car accidents are likely to leave surviving family members not only grieving their loss, but also facing financial difficulties from the unexpected expenses resulting from the tragedy. Regardless of the number of vehicles involved in an accident, if a driver is believed to have been negligent in causing the crash, legal claims can typically be made against them. In this case, the victim's family members may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim against the driver. This type of claim, if successfully litigated in an Ohio civil court, could result in a monetary judgment on behalf of the family in order to help them recover any current and future financial losses incurred as a direct result of the crash.
