An Ohio car accident has left a teenage girl dead. The car accident happened just before 4 p.m. on March 21 at the intersection of Lillian Gish Boulevard and West Lincoln Highway in Massillon. According to a local report, the girl was crossing the street in a crosswalk when she was hit by a 2002 Chevy Silverado that was making a right-hand turn.
The 17-year-old girl was transported to Affinity Hospital. She later died there from her injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. Authorities say he was wearing his seat belt.
Police are still conducting an investigation of the accident. They have indicated that they did not believe alcohol played a role in the incident. There was no word on whether the driver of the truck may face criminal charges. He could also face civil litigation from the family of the teenager. They could file a wrongful death suit against the driver for compensation related to the girl’s death. Eligible damages include pain and suffering, medical expenses, final expenses and lost wages.
The results of the investigation could help the family decide whether to file a suit. If the investigation finds that the driver was reckless or negligent, their attorney may be able to use that information to prove his liability in court or in settlement negotiations. Since it was reported that the girl was in the crosswalk when she was struck, it is more likely negligence may have played a role. Authorities may also investigate whether the driver was distracted or if speed was a factor in causing the fatal accident.
