Claire's denies asbestos exposure can happen from its makeup

Depending on who you ask, everyone comes into contact with toxic chemicals and substances, every day whether they live here in Ohio or elsewhere. However, there are some toxic substances, such as asbestos, that most people believe only exist in building materials, brake pads and other industrial products and industries. This makes the results of one study particularly alarming since it reports that asbestos exposure could take place from wearing makeup sold by Claire's, which is a popular place for teens to buy cosmetics.

Even as the company denies that any of its products contain asbestos, it felt the need to recall nine cosmetic products in Dec. 2017. The issue arose when a mother sent one of Claire's makeup products for testing, which came back positive for asbestos. Since then, a consumer advocacy group conducted its own study, and Ohio parents of teenage girls may not like what was found.

Testing found asbestos in some of Claire's products, which could cause debilitating and deadly forms of cancer after exposure. Claire's claims that the testing methods used are no longer reliable and considered obsolete. It also claims that the organization conducting the testing was not an authorized testing facility.

It could take some time to ascertain the truth regarding the risk teens may face from this company's products. In the meantime, parents may want to find out more information about the recalled products and what legal options, if any, exist if asbestos exposure occurred. These types of products liability cases can be tricky due to the fact that the symptoms of asbestos-related diseases can lie dormant for many years, so it may be a good idea to consult with legal resources in the Cleveland area before moving forward with any claims.
