Does asbestos exposure always lead to mesothelioma?

On Behalf of | Aug 6, 2020 | Asbestos Exposure & Claims

With everything going on in the world, people here in Ohio and elsewhere may have put other potential health hazards out of their minds, at least temporarily. One of those may be asbestos exposure and whether it could lead to a diagnosis of mesothelioma or some other illness related to this toxic substance. The amount of exposure could correlate to the chances of contracting one of these conditions.

The research indicates that the chances of contracting mesothelioma from short-term exposure are small. If an Ohio resident was only exposed for a few days, he or she may never get sick. However, those who work in an industry where exposure is routine have a much higher chance.

Anyone who has been exposed to asbestos for any length of time may still want to see a doctor because there is no way to remove the toxic substance from the body. If an individual has abdominal masses or trouble breathing, it could indicate mesothelioma. A doctor will perform a physical examination and order testing in order to determine the cause of a person’s symptoms. If it turns out to be an asbestos-related illness, it could change the victim’s life forever.

Not everyone exposed to asbestos will end up being diagnosed with mesothelioma. For those who do receive such a diagnosis, medical and medical-related care can become quite costly. It may be possible to pursue benefits and/or restitution to help with the current and future needs of an individual facing this illness, but it is often a challenge. It would be beneficial to discuss the situation with an attorney experienced in this complicated area of law.
