Mesothelioma: Researchers announce hopeful discovery

On Behalf of | Aug 18, 2020 | Mesothelioma

As medical technology continues to grow and advance, researchers in Ohio and across the nation are constantly seeking out new ways to treat serious health conditions. Recent reports of a new type of cancer treatment that helps combat tumors could provide hope to those who are suffering from conditions such as mesothelioma. This new treatment reportedly acts to block a certain protein, which in turn helps immune cells combat tumors and researchers say this could prove helpful in battling conditions that are typically more resistant to immunotherapy, such as mesothelioma.

Experts suggest that one of the most troubling aspects of treating mesothelioma pertains to its inherent resistance to immunotherapy treatment. However, researchers are hopeful that a recent discovery may lead to a breakthrough in lung cancer treatment. In this discovery, researchers claim they were able to use an antibody to attack and block a specific type of protein known as TREM2, which can be found within resistant tumors.

Medical researchers say that blocking this protein could prove vital to boosting immunotherapy and helping immune cells fight tumors. They assert that finding new ways to target this protein could play an integral role in developing new treatments for cancer patients. While the research is still ongoing, officials have advised that clinical trials for certain anti-TREM2 antibodies are already underway.

Although advancements in mesothelioma treatment continue to arise, many individuals in Ohio continue to suffer from similar conditions. Unfortunately, there may also be a multitude of others who have lost someone close due to such health concerns. Those who have suffered such harm or loss under certain circumstances may be entitled to restitution and there are attorneys who can evaluate a person’s situation and provide much needed insight on all of the available options.
