What does mesothelioma actually do to the body?

The results of exposure to asbestos may not appear for several decades. Ohio residents exposed to this toxic substance unfortunately have to live with not knowing whether they will suffer from the rare and deadly cancer that most often results from it -- mesothelioma. People may know that it exists, but they may not really know what it does to the human body.

Did landlord improperly dispose of asbestos during abatement?

With all of the other issues confronting Ohio residents right now, the last thing they should have to worry about is contracting a disease called mesothelioma. This often-lethal cancer occurs almost exclusively due to exposure to asbestos. Many of the older buildings here and across the country contain materials made with this toxic substance that are not necessarily dangerous unless the materials are disturbed in some way such as during a demolition or renovation.

The FDA recently approved a new treatment for mesothelioma

After believing he or she escaped the consequences of asbestos exposure, an Ohio resident could receive a devastating diagnosis decades later. The incubation period for mesothelioma can be up to 50 years, and by the time it is diagnosed, a patient could no longer benefit from surgery or radiation. Under these circumstances, a new device may help.

Mesothelioma is a real risk for firefighters

All first responders here in Ohio and elsewhere deserve accolades for putting their lives on the line for the other members of their communities. Firefighters in particular put their lives at risk every time they go into a burning building. They heroically fight the chaos they can see, but the unknown enemies they face could put their health at risk. For instance, some of them could end up suffering from mesothelioma due to the presence of asbestos dust and fibers in a building they go into.

First Capital Insulation Inc. fined for worker asbestos exposure

Asbestos, as most people in Ohio know, is an extremely toxic substance that can lead to mesothelioma and other debilitating types of illnesses. Despite this well-accepted link between asbestos exposure and serious health risks, some businesses continue to put workers and consumers at an unnecessary risk. First Capital Insulation Inc. -- an out-of-state insulation company -- was recently slapped with a fine for failing to protect its employees.
